Day 2, Tarifa to Santa Maria

So, day 2 of riding from Tarifa to the Amicii Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation UK kennels in Worcestershire. Set off in the dark after packing away the tent, stopped just after sunrise and had a biscuit and some water.
Some of the route today was on the EuroVelo 8, but not all of it was that good to be honest. Stopped for elevenses at a service station, coffee and an ice cream. It was quite hilly in places and the terrain was very dry with scrubby woodland on either side of the road. I stopped at Chiclana de la Frontera at 1pm, but apparently lunch doesn't begin until 2pm. I think they must have felt sorry for me, as they rustled up a plate of albondigas (meat balls) which were very tasty.
Latter part of the day was a lot of apartments and golf courses, until I got to the Cadiz bay and nature reserve. That was a bumpy track that seemed to go on forever.
I eventually arrived in Cadiz, which seems nice in parts, but it's very developed and a seaside resort, so not my bag I'm afraid.
Got the catamaran across the bay at 6pm to Puerto de Santa Maria and rode to the campsite. I was so hot and salty I just walked in to the shower with my clothes on.
Refreshed, I had a bite to eat in the campsite restaurant and headed off to bed. I did brush my teeth.
It's still very hot. 31°C in my tent according to my GPS. It's not windy though, the wind battering the tent kept me awake last night. Fingers crossed for a better night's sleep.
Please donate to the dogs and don't forget to comment and share. Sometimes I doubt my sanity...
