So I thought I'd use this event (200km Audax, or reliability ride) as a bit of a shakedown test for the Amicii challenge. Both a test for me and the bike. So, how did we do? Well, the bike did OK - the new wide tyres are sooo comfortable on the poor Herefordshire road surfaces (the road between Hay and Whitney on Wye is truly atrocious), but my handlebar tape started coming off and something has developed a persistent and annoying click. It could be a pedal. It could be the bottom bracket (hope not) or it could be my knees! Also, my shoes are pinching my pinky toe, so that's a bit uncomfortable.
Apart from that, it wasn't too bad. 129 miles and 6,700 feet of climbing in 9.5 hours. The acid test will be if I can do that kind of thing day after day for two weeks! I feel a bit stiff this (following) morning.
We visited the Eardisley Oak, which is 900 years old, apparently.
The toll Bridge (free for bikes)
