Day 9, Camping Cubillas to Castañares.

Set off at 7, after not a fantastic night's sleep in a campsite next to a motorway. Everything wet this morning as it rained last night. Rode along the canal de Castilla all the way to Palencia, a long way in the dark, dodging errant rabbits and even a few deer.
Disappointed that nowhere open for coffee in Palencia, but more than made up for that in Villalobón.
Lots of uphill from there all the way to Astudillo, which again was very picturesque, but almost deserted. More rolling hills until I got to Castrojeriz, which seems to be a major stopover on the Camino de Santiago, with pilgrims everywhere. Many shouts of "buen camino!", which I duly returned, but I feel a bit of a cheat as I haven't been to Santiago de Compostela...
Very difficult terrain from there to Burgos, up and down, up and down. I zipped through Burgos fairly quickly, as I'd booked a room, but unfortunately the address on the booking app were completely wrong and I ended up cycling another 10km trying to find the place! Then when I did arrive, the attached restaurant was closed, as is everything else locally! No way I was going to ride back in to Burgos, but they must have seen the disappointment on my face, as they rustled up a plate of chicken and rice and salad, AND a dessert, a glass of vino and a beer! Hoping for a good night's sleep!
